How To Dress On a Cruise

Going on a cruise can be a lot of fun, but knowing what to wear at the formal night of the cruise is sometimes confusing.

We have assembled a pretty easy guideline that should help you.

First you need to know the obvious, that if you're cruising on one of the more formal lines, you may want to consider dressing up a bit, at least for the cruise formal night and semi formal night.

Most cruises have at least one formal night, and if the cruise is an extended 7 day cruise, you may have a semi-formal night as well.

While in general, cruising has become much more relaxed over the years, the formal night does give everyone an opportunity to dress elegantly, or a elegantly as they wish.

The basic rule for men and what to wear at the formal night breaks down as follows:

On the formal night of the cruise
Generally tuxedos are worn by men
If you don't want to wear a tuxedo, wear a matching suit.

On the semi-formal night of the cruise
Tuxedos are optional
Business suits are the standard dress code
 

All other nights
Dress clean - a corporate casual look will do just fine
Consider wearing a sport jacket for all meals after dark

Your Choice

• Want to dress formal? - Wear a black tuxedo with a white pleated shirt and a solid black tie.  If you don't already own a tuxedo, most cruise ships can make arrangements for you ahead of time thorough a tuxedo rental shop that they either have on board or services them.  Call ahead, see what your options are and have a nice tuxedo waiting for you in your room.  Don't forget, you can also rent a tuxedo and simply bring it on board.  Most tuxedo rental shops have an extended rental price which you will find most affordable.  As an alternative, wear a matching black or navy blue suit, white shirt, and a black satin bow tie.
   

• Want to dress not so formal? - You still have options.  If you don't like wearing a tuxedo, simply dress in business clothes - almost as if you're going on an interview.  Wear a dark matching suit.  For shirting options, white always looks great, but you can also add a bit of color with pale pastel colored shirts and a beautifully contrasting necktie.  Try wearing a white shirt and one of our beautiful solid colored ties.  Select from solid pink ties, solid blue ties or solid red ties for the perfect look.
